This hybrid crosses Nepenthes singalana with the ever-popular hybrid Nepenthes burbidgeae x edwardsiana. The mother is a N. singalana from the Belirang locality chosen for its deep purple colouration and vigorous growing. The male is the famous N. burbidgeae x edwardsiana clone from Malesiana Tropicals that came from a wild seed set, with some debate around the father being N. edwardsiana or N. villosa.
N. burbidgeae x edwardsiana is a beautiful natural hybrid that has been used in many more crosses around the world, but that can be tricky to pitcher for some growers. Nepenthes singalana is an excellent complement to this and has resulted in a far easier to grow but just as spectacular hybrid.
